The Dean who can Shred

On Tuesday Don Lubach Ph.D., the Associate Dean of Students came and spoke to us. He emphasized the unique resort vibe as being UCSBs ultimate attraction. He said the number one way we recruit top professors is by showing them pictures of our gorgeous campus, which I believe because it was the primary reason I personally chose Santa Barbara. Dean Lubach is responsible for all freshmen activities and teaches INT 20
Through out his presentation Dean Lubach emphasized critical thinking of new ideas and analyzing the world. He supplied us with a long list of resources that can help us become better critical thinkers which included Davidson LIbrabry, CLAS, Arts & Literature, Multicultural Center, Kavili Institute, and Reddit. I feel that Dean Lubach was able to connect with the audience so well because of his authentic enthusiasm about the subject. I had the wonderful experience of watching the rocket launching with him and my classmates on the roof of lot 22. While patiently waiting for the rocket launch the Dean decided to shred on one of my peers skateboards. Making me officially think that I go to the coolest school ever when you can watch a rocket launch and skateboard with your dean,
The library visit was very useful because it showed us first hand how to properly navigate through the library’s database. If we had not gone I probably never would have been able to find search engines like Ebsco that link you to millions of online research texts.

  1. I wish I could have watched the rocket and shredded with Lubach! He seems to be the epitome of UCSB personable, cool, and chill professors. He's personally one of my favorite professors already, and I've only heard him speak once! His presentation has stuck to me to this day and know it will for the long run as well. Either way, I went up to him after his lecture and asked which class he’s going to teach during the year for freshmen because I know I want him as a long-term professor. But let’s not forget the library! I felt so relieved coming out of that presentation because now I understand how to navigate the online library catalog efficiently.

  2. You’ll so lucky you got to see the launch. When I heard that we had a chance to see a real rocket launch, I got excited! Sadly I was in class during the launch, which totally sucked cause I wanted to see if I could catch a glimpse of it. That was probably a once in a life time opportunity... Anyways, I totally agree with you when you say that Doctor Lubach was able to connect with us during his presentation. His enthusiasm and positive attitude made it so that the lecture wasn’t boring, but rather interesting and insightful. He’s the kind of guy I would love to have as a teacher.

  3. Damn... I messed up :(.
I kinda of dazed in and out during his lecture and I didn't really realize we had the option to go to the parking lot and watch the launch with some other people. As nerdy as it sounds you honestly make me jealous that I didn't go myself. It would have been pretty crazy to see our dean skateboard. That would have been something I could have bragged to my friends going to UCLA or USC about. Thank you for putting this picture up. It kind of just makes me happy to see it.
